Styrian Summer Art: The photogram – exposing the world with Beba Fink
General Information
Workshop Description:
A Discovery - with Light! A Workshop - (almost) without Camera
At the beginning, we will explore the city or landscape together to discover, document, photograph, and collect light-transmissive, object-like finds. In the studio, we will choose and experiment with different methods to expose the objects: laid down, recorded, or hung up. Light tables will help you better perceive the materials.
Carefully, we will bring the setting into the darkroom, where the mysterious exposure process begins: The finds transform into unique prints on real photographic paper in the developer, stop, and fixing baths. You can archive your works or creatively combine them with other elements found in the urban space or nature.
After an introductory darkroom training and a trial run, you will work independently or in small groups – constantly accompanied by the artist. Books and films complement the practical information about photography and photograms. Anyone preparing a portfolio for an entrance exam will find numerous opportunities with us.
At the end, we will present the works created in an exhibition.
The workshop is aimed at everyone who is curious about a different kind of photography, who enjoys nature and its plants, and who wants to artistically implement these experiences. Prerequisite is a confident handling of one's own camera (digital or analog). Prior knowledge of darkroom work is not required.
Please note: Photographic paper and development materials will be calculated separately and collected at the end of the workshop. You are welcome to bring your own materials.

The Artist:
Beba Fink Visual artist, art historian, graphic designer, nature and landscape educator, explores nature with all its peculiarities and wondrous forms and incorporates these experiences into her artistic work and education.
Her concerns and themes are to support the re-rooting and contemplation of humans through heart and nature experiences and creative creation, to promote mindful encounters with plants and their special effects on humans and animals.
The possibility of making one's own colors and utensils from plant materials creates independence; the topic of recycling and using found items / "found footage" in an artistic context is also a part of her work. Both experiences and a bit more are conveyed in the workshops.
In collaboration with Austrian and international sound and performance artists, writers, etc., she opens new experimental spaces indoors and outdoors as a light artist. Using analog (and digital) techniques in conjunction with other art forms, such as painting, graphics, performance, photography, video, or installation.
Beba Fink studied art history, media, and graphic design in Graz, as well as art and photography at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the Friedl Kubelka School in Vienna, and nature and landscape education at LFI Graz.
