Styrian Summer Art: Textile Design with Digital Manufacturing with Silvia Brandi
General Information
Workshop Description:
Note: The workshop will be held in English.
In this workshop, you will learn how to design a wearable garment or accessory from modular, laser-cut elements that can be rearranged repeatedly. We will start with the basics of modular construction and initial experiments with paper models. Then you will work with Rhino, software to develop your own module or adapt an existing module of your choice. You will prepare the files for laser cutting in a partner workshop.
* For participants who cannot draw on the computer or have difficulties with it, we will prepare some templates for them to work on.
Once the elements are cut from a sustainable, felt-like material, your piece will be created through hand assembly – all without sewing. The process is playful and experimental; you can continually reconfigure shapes and volumes.
Basic digital skills are beneficial, and a personal laptop is required. A notebook and simple drawing tools are helpful.
After the workshop, you will take home a self-designed, modular garment and the knowledge of how to design clothing and accessories that can evolve and change – and how to realize artistic creations from inexhaustible possibilities.
We thank the company Mindprint for the collaboration.
