Workshop - Description:
This three-day intensive workshop will guide you not only in creating a solid art object but also in thoroughly articulating the concept of your sculptural work, using newspaper headlines as a starting point.
The goal of this workshop is to develop a conceptual sculpture in Cartonería (paper sculpture), which can be figurative or abstract depending on the inspiring message.
You will be guided by a visual artist specialized in paper art with extensive international exhibition experience to make your ideas as expressive as possible.
For this workshop, you will need conventional materials such as sketchbooks, pencils or pens, as well as acrylic paints and brushes, glue, newspapers, and magazines, in addition to your selected notes or headlines.
Please bring:
- Three news headlines that are of personal interest to you. If possible, bring the full article, preferably in physical form (newspaper or magazine)
- Sketchbook(s)
- Pencils, sharpener, eraser, pens, or similar materials
- Acrylic paints (for finishing the figure/sculpture)
- Papers and cardboard
- Masking tape
- Wood glue
- 2-3 cups (for mixing glue and acrylic paints)
- Brushes for painting and applying the wood glue
- Varnish (optional)
- 1-2 meters of wire (galvanized or normal) for the structure
- Pliers for cutting and bending the wire
- Reusable materials that interest you (this can be any other material you want to integrate into your work)
- Drop cloth and apron (or similar)
The Artist:
Evelio Moreno (Bisont), born in 1982 in Lerdo, Mexico, is an internationally active artist who explores the metamorphosis of matter and myth. Under the pseudonym Bisont created during the pandemic, he articulates a language that combines sociology and media critique.
His work is represented in collections such as Kunsthaus Weiz (2026). He is a winner of the FINI 2023, currently a semifinalist of the LUBICA26, and has been awarded for his cinematic work.
He has had both solo and group exhibitions in Austria, Spain, and Mexico. In Austria, he established himself through projects such as "Saubaum" (2018), "Art Machine" (Pöllau, 2019), and "Narrenkastl” (Frohnleiten 2023).
His solo exhibition will follow in the main hall of Kunsthaus Weiz in 2026. He transforms materials of obsolescence into discursive sculptures and uses Cartonería as a medium to powerfully manifest the architecture of the idea in space.
He has led workshops multiple times (including Schloss Pöllau 2016, 2018).
