Workshop Description:
The workshop "Photographic Seeing – From Red to Pink" deals with fundamental design questions of photography. We explore the difference between what we perceive visually and what a photographic image actually depicts.
The workshop is divided into 6 different units. In each unit, a photographic theme is first introduced theoretically and then explored practically on an individual basis. The practical work is framed by the overarching task "From Red to Pink" – a theme that encourages experimentation and consciously tests the boundaries of photographic design.
- DAY 1
The Capture Device – Experimenting and exploring the possibilities and limitations of one’s own camera
- DAY 2
Exposure – Overexposing and underexposing as a design tool
Perspective – The image space and its effect
- DAY 3
Sharpness and Blur – Guiding perception
Color – Light – Brightness and methods
What to do with images? – Selection, presentation, and reflection
In the practical part, we critically engage with how image ideas are developed, constructed, and implemented fotografically. The goal is to produce three images for each theme, which will be reflected upon in the last two units during an open, communal image discussion.
Please bring:
- a camera (with memory card and card reader) or a smartphone that allows manual settings,
- a laptop or an iPad to view and select image data.
The Artist:
Yola Moschitz, studied and works as a freelance photographer in Graz.
