The Northern Route - From the Glacier to the Wine
The limestone massifs in the north between the Dachstein, Gesäuse, Hochschwab and Rax present themselves in all their rugged majesty. The contours in the green mountains of the Fischbacher Alps and in the Almenland Nature Reserve are much gentler. Instead of bare rock, deep green forests reign here. Instead of alpine exposition, rural remoteness is found here. It is precisely in its ordinariness that the power of the region lies, which invites visitors to relax and switch off. In the last section of the 'From the Glacier to the Wine' hiking route is where connoisseurs get their money's worth. The terrain is easier to manage due to the now gently cropped graceful landscapes of eastern Styria and the hot springs country. Cultural highlights and culinary delights line the entire route.
The tour can of course also be done in partial stages: Thanks to public transport (train, Postbus, hiking and valley buses, hiking taxis), it is possible to return to the starting point from virtually every destination.
Stages of the Northern Route35 daily stages from the white mountains between the Dachstein and Rax, to the green mountains of the Fischbacher Alps, to the gentle wine country with its wonderful gardens.
