The region’s cycling backbone
The Mur Cycle Path runs for around 60 kilometres through the Graz Region, offering a varied mix of flat, riverside stretches and scenic landscapes. The route connects the city of Graz with its surrounding areas, follows the Mur River and repeatedly opens up impressive views. For cyclists who appreciate both urban atmosphere and the calm of nature, the Mur Cycle Path is an ideal choice.
Along the way, a number of sights can be easily integrated into the tour: the historic centre of Frohnleiten, Rabenstein Castle with its panoramic views, and the Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing, which provides insights into traditional rural architecture. Another highlight is Rein Abbey, the oldest active Cistercian monastery in the world, located in a peaceful setting north of Graz.
Meridiem Trail
Cycle route Vienna–Villach via Graz
The Meridiem Trail connects Vienna and Villach on a route of around 600 kilometres across Austria. Since March 2026, the route has also passed through Graz, making the Graz Region a stop on the journey south.
For touring cyclists, it creates a new link between city, landscape and longer-distance cycling through Styria.

The Graz Region offers mountain bike routes with different levels of difficulty. Around the Schöckl, in the Grazer Bergland and in the Lipizzanerheimat, options range from longer tours with substantial climbs to more technical trail sections.
An important starting point is the Schöckl Trail Area. The cable car takes bikes and riders up the mountain, from where a variety of trails lead back down into the valley.
