Spring Sightseeing

Out exploring

In Graz, there is a great deal to discover, especially in the springtime – at that time when the sun is warm but not yet scorching hot. Below you will find a small guide to the most important sightseeing hotspots:

  • Only for a short time, the cherry blossoms bloom at the Rosenhain: a special spring event that one should definitely see at least once.
  • High above the rooftops rises the Schlossberg, with the landmark of the city – the Uhrturm. Especially at sunset, the wide-ranging view invites visitors to marvel.
Insider tip: the blossom-lined avenue on the way up is exceptionally beautiful at this time of year.
  • At the Kunsthaus Graz café, the outdoor seating invites guests to watch passers-by strolling past, while in the museum located inside, contemporary exhibitions of international art are presented.
  • At the UNESCO World Heritage Site Schloss Eggenberg, from mid-April onwards, one encounters freely roaming peacocks.
  • In the Graz Old Town as well, more life returns with spring: garden restaurants fill up, encounter zones become lively, and modern cafés and unique boutiques look forward to cheerful customers.

Austria’s Capital of Delight

Graz is a city shaped by flavour – and a true haven for food lovers. As Austria’s only officially recognised Capital of Delight, the city brings together tradition, creativity and regional quality at an exceptional level. Award-winning restaurants sit comfortably alongside classic taverns, offering Styrian cuisine at its very best.

Yet culinary discovery in Graz goes far beyond fine dining. At popular farmers’ markets such as Kaiser-Josef-Platz and Lendplatz, visitors stroll past stalls piled high with seasonal produce – from crisp apples and aromatic pumpkin seed oil to fresh herbs and crunchy vegetables. Anyone seeking regional flavours with a touch of Mediterranean lightness will feel right at home.

The city’s modern side is equally enticing. Trendy cafés, creative street food spots and innovative dining concepts invite guests to explore Graz’s contemporary food scene. And whatever the occasion, one thing is almost always close at hand: a glass of Styrian wine, enjoyed slowly and with pleasure.

When the city awakens, the excursion destinations around Graz also open their gates. The motto is therefore: Out of the city and into the idyllic surrounding countryside!

  • At the Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing, visitors embark on a journey through history. Historic farmhouses from all regions of Austria tell the story of past centuries.

  • A little further on, the Austrian Sculpture Park Premstätten is aimed especially at those who appreciate art and nature: contemporary works are presented in the midst of a spacious park landscape.

  • At the Lipizzan Stud Piber, home of the world-famous white horses of the Spanish Riding School, the breeding of the animals can be experienced at close range.
