The Graz Region is wonderfully HIKABLE in all directions and above all for EVERYONE - from a leisurely stroll through the city, to romantic alpine tours, to impressive summit climbs!

The landscape in and around Graz thrives on exciting contrasts. Wherever the path leads: Every part of the Graz Region exudes its very own charm and is worth a hike. It's hard to believe, but the Graz Region offers marmots, chamois, Lipizzaners and the best views. Hardly any other region offers such a variety of different types of landscapes and attractive nature experiences in the immediate vicinity of an international city of culture, pleasure and the capital of the province.

The North

Hiking in the Grazer Bergland

The Grazer Bergland shapes the north of the Graz Region. Hiking trails lead through a varied mountain landscape of wooded ridges, quiet alpine pastures and panoramic summits.

Hochalpe north of Frohnleiten, the Gleinalpe mountain range and the Grazer Bergland Trail offer routes for different levels of ability. Around Rein Abbey, the Four 1,000-metre Peaks route links several summits in a varied circular hike. Shorter trails, extended high-level hikes and peaceful places to stop for food and drink give the Grazer Bergland its own distinct character.

The West

Hiking in the Lipizzanerheimat

To the west of Graz, the Lipizzanerheimat and the Styrian rucksack villages invite you to go on discovery tours. The area is very varied from the Piber stud farm up to the Pack- and Stubalpe, from the romantic reservoirs to the Hebalm, the Reinischkogel and the start of the Schilcher wine route near Ligist.
Several long-distance hiking trails and pilgrimage routes also run through the Graz Region in the west. The longest is the Austrian North-South Long-Distance Hiking Trail 05, while the Koralm Crystal Trail in the Koralm-Stubalm area leads you on leisurely ascents and descents past witnesses to an exciting geological development and the hiking route "From Glacier to Wine" crosses the Graz Region from the idyllically situated Salzstiegl via the Hirschegger Alm to the village of Pack.
For pilgrims, the journey is the reward! Although there are still many stages to Santiago de Compostela, there are some worthwhile ones along the West Styrian Way of St. James.

The East

Hiking in Hügel- und Schöcklland

Schöckl shapes the hiking area east of Graz. Summit trails, gorges and circular hikes extend across St. Radegund and the Semriach high plateau to the gentle hills around Laßnitzhöhe and Eggersdorf. Themed trails and family-friendly routes add further variety.

The South

Walks in the Graz basin

In the south you can take long walks in the Graz basin along the Murauen or in the Kaiserwald. There are no peaks to conquer here, but you can discover many new things all year round on varied themed trails and nature trails.

Moving through the city

Graz's Schloßberg with its clock tower is not only a landmark of the historic old town, but also a symbol of Graz as a hiking destination with its green hills and many walking and hiking trails. Important points are the Plabutsch, Reinerkogel, Platte, Lustbühel and many more.
