Mountain moments in northern Styria

Arrival at the Gesäuse National Park and check-in at the Hotel Spirodom in Admont. In the afternoon, your group will discover the thousand-year-old high culture of Admont Benedictine Abbey during a guided tour of the magnificent abbey library, followed by a tasting of the abbey’s own wines.

The next day, the journey continues to the Ausseerland Salzkammergut. On the way, your group will visit Trautenfels Castle, visible from afar. It houses a regional museum and changing special exhibitions. It stands majestically on a rocky outcrop at the foot of the Grimming. Tip: After the guided tour, be sure to climb the castle’s observation tower and enjoy the view of the Enns Valley, framed by mountains.

Take the new, comfortable panoramic cable car up to the Loser mountain. An easy-to-walk path leads from the mountain station around Lake Augst. Stop for lunch at the Loseralm, from where your group will have a beautiful view of the Dachstein Glacier and the surrounding mountains and lakes.

Back in the valley, another highlight of the region is just a stone’s throw away. At the Salzwelten Altaussee, miners’ slides lead into the depths of this mountain of treasures in rock salt. In Austria’s largest active salt mine, your guests will learn all about salt mining and the courageous rescue of Europe’s art treasures at the end of the Second World War.

The next morning, your group sets off directly from the hotel for a 3-hour panoramic tour. A park ranger will accompany you to the most beautiful spots in the national park. Optional lunch break at the National Park Pavilion in Gstatterboden before continuing eastwards to the popular Hauly ride at the Erzberg. Unique in Europe – your group will experience active mining up close from the 1,217 hp Hauly.
