Abenteuer Erzberg

The Erzberg is a symbol of industrialisation and a central part of the Styrian Iron Road, making it a popular destination for group travel. The mountain is home to Europe’s only active open-pit mining area that can be experienced live by visitors. Iron ore has been extracted here using open-cast mining methods for more than 1,300 years.

Your guests step directly from the coach into the world’s largest taxi – the “Hauly”, a converted heavy-duty mining truck with 1,217 horsepower that takes visitors through the impressive mining area. After this adventurous tour, the experience continues in the show mine, where miners extracted ore until 1986.

A particular highlight takes place every Thursday (except public holidays) from 8.30 am onwards: spectacular blasting demonstrations where guests can witness live how up to 80,000 tonnes of rock are blasted and extracted.
