Original, cosy and home-made is what to expect from the wine taverns in the Eastern Styria region. Wine taverns are not merely a place to eat, but truly reflect our attitude towards life.
Wine taverns are far from rare in the Eastern Styria. We have a whole road of them. Along the Eastern Styria Roman Wine Road, you can peek behind the scenes at vineyards and learn all about the Eastern Styria’s wine, from grape to glass, in the course of tours and tastings.
Enjoy the best wine and tasty snacks along the Eastern Styria Roman Wine Road. The traditional “Brettljause” cold snack plate naturally includes roast pork, smoked meat, air-dried sausages, bacon, smoked loin, fresh spreads, delicious cheese and a portion of freshly grated horseradish. If you like a bit of sourness, we recommend a plate with boiled beef, runner beans and regional soft cheese, marinated with the unique pumpkin seed oil and apple cider vinegar.
URBANUS®, named in honour of the wine patron Pope Urban I, is a registered trademark of the Eastern Styria Roman Wine Road. This dry, aromatic and light wine can be produced by all members along the wine road under their own responsibility. URBANUS® is presented by the members of the Eastern Styria Roman Wine Road annually on February 2nd (Candlemas).
