The high-altitude trail takes you from the Joglland trail in St. Jakob im Walde, which has been awarded the Styrian trail quality seal, to the Rabl-Kreuz trail at Hochwechsel.
The high-altitude trail offers a wonderful hiking trail when there is sufficient natural snow and connects the two cross-country skiing areas in the Joglland - Waldheimat region: the Joglland trail in St. Jakob im Walde and the Rabl-Kreuz trails at the foot of the Hochwechsel. There is a place to stop for refreshments both at the starting point of the Joglland trail and at the Rabl-Kreuz trail. This also makes the high-altitude trail a popular tour for cross-country skiers on snow-covered winter days.

To the route planner: Gasthof Orthofer, St. Jakob im Walde
We start the longest lap on the Jogllandloipe in St. Jakob im Walde in the starting area, directly behind the Gasthof Orthofer. From there we always stick to the red markings of the 10 km cross-country ski trail. Since both the 10km cross-country ski run and the 25 km long high-altitude cross-country ski run are only suitable for the classic style, we always follow the groomed cross-country ski run. After a first short climb and a first descent, we dive into a forest after the so-called Blochplatz. At the Riegler Kohlstatt intersection we continue straight ahead to the Fütterung intersection, where we keep to the right. On our way to the Rabl-Kreuz-Hütte at the foot of the Hochwechsel we pass the Ochsenkopf, or the St. Jakob im Walde family ski mountain. After about another kilometer, at the turn of the 10 km trail, we leave the red-marked trail and continue straight on towards Hochwechsel. The high-altitude trail takes us over the so-called Bühlhofer-Höhe, past the Blasekogel and the Herrenstein (here we can marvel at the mighty wind turbines) to the Rabl-Kreuz-Hütte at Hochwechsel. After around 2.5 hours of running time and 12.5 kilometers covered, we reach our destination and treat ourselves to a refreshment in the rustic hut. Now we make our way back to the Gasthof Orthofer. From the Rabl-Kreuz-Hütte until we reach the 10 km trail again at the turn, we stick to the same trail as on the ascent. Then we turn right until we come to the feeding intersection. Afterwards we keep right twice and finally come back to Blochplatz. Here we turn right onto the descent, then master a small climb so that we reach the start/finish area again.
The 25 kilometer long high-altitude cross-country ski trail, starting from the Jogllandloipe in St. Jakob im Walde, is perfect for a day-long cross-country skiing tour through the wintry landscape - with refreshment stops for refreshments!
