For decades, Anton Petz has been presenting us with pictures of crowds, but also single individuals, portraits. This contrast between the individual and the crowd characterizes the artist's thinking. Just as mass culture and individualism confront each other in the postmodern era, the individual subject also seems to have to find a balance between self-realization and social commitment.
The starting point for Anton Petz's figurative paintings are images from newspapers, television and social media; in recent years, a panopticon of human activity has emerged, a description of society under its social and ideological conditions.
Günther Holler-Schuster talks about the works of Anton Petz.
