Short, challenging and steeped in the history of the Montan region: the Vordernberger Runde I 805 combines a tough climb with sections of gravel and off-road terrain, before leading through the historic market town of Vordernberg back to the starting point.
The Vordernberg Loop I 805 is a short but challenging mountain bike route around the historic mining town of Vordernberg. Over a distance of just around 4.3 kilometres, the route climbs nearly 200 metres in altitude – making for a suitably challenging ride. Starting from Vordernberg’s main square, the tour begins straight away with a steep climb towards Hohe Rötz. After around 1.5 kilometres, the route branches off towards the television transmitter. A more demanding descent along gravel and off-road tracks then provides a change of pace. After a further climb towards the St Laurent’s Church, the circuit leads back to the historic market town of Vordernberg. Numerous listed buildings and reminders of centuries of iron and mining history characterise the townscape here. The combination of a physical challenge, varied terrain and mining history makes the Vordernberg Circuit a special short MTB tour.

The starting point is the main square in Vordernberg. The first – and longest – climb towards Hohe Rötz begins immediately from here. The route gains a significant amount of altitude over a short distance. After around 1.5 kilometres, the route branches off to the left towards the television transmitter. This is followed by a more challenging, off-road descent along gravel and dirt tracks towards ‘Lauf’. The route then climbs once more towards St Laurent’s Church. From there, it leads back to the market town of Vordernberg. The final section runs through the historic town centre, with its numerous buildings and monuments relating to mining history, back to the main square. Up-to-date information on disruptions and closures along the route can be found online at www.eisenwadl.at/tested
