In just a few minutes you can reach the ancient ruin of Massenburg Castle, which dates back to the 9th or 10th century, via the city park, Dirnböckweg and Massenbergstraße. The hike is located in the Erzberg-Leoben region..

After a short walk through the city park "Am Glacis" you reach the Jakobikreuz (monument donated in 1512 with sculptures from the late Gothic and Baroque periods). Via Dirnböckweg and Massenbergstraße you reach the inner courtyard of the Massenburg ruin after a few minutes through the former gate building. An imposing gate building and the remains of buildings worth seeing have been preserved to this day and are also used for music and theater events.

A viewing platform offers a magnificent view of Leoben and the surrounding mountains. The Massenburg dates back to the 9th or 10th century. Only for the 12th century the name Massenburg is documented.

The path is perfect for a short hike that is not too strenuous but always worthwhile.

The path is mainly asphalt, so it is also possible to walk on it with a wheelchair or anything else.

In addition, you can continue the short hike by following the trail to the Pamplicherwarte.

The starting point is Leoben's main square from where you walk south past the miner's fountain through a passage (left of Cafe Admiral).

The path continues through the beautiful city park ''Am Glacis'', past the ''Eggenwaldsche Gartenhaus'' to the Jakobikreuz, which was built on the opposite side of the street.

The path continues south along the Dirnböckweg and the Massenbergstraße, which leads directly to the ruin.

After a few minutes you finally reach the former gate building that leads to the courtyard of the Massenburg.

A visit to the Massenburg ruin is worthwhile in any case:
