This not-too-long circular walk west of Schwanberg takes you past many of the features that make this region so charming. Beautiful mixed forests, rolling hills covered in vineyards and orchards, and sweeping views across the countryside.

From the car park opposite the parish church, walk a few metres to the main square. At the north-eastern end of the main square is the chemist’s; here, the path turns left into Mainsdorferstraße. There you’ll find a charming, old-fashioned corner shop worth a visit, where you can also buy a few things. On Route 11, turn left onto Bergstraße and follow this road uphill for about one kilometre until you reach another fork. The marked forest path 11 heads left into the ditch and crosses the Weiherbach stream. Passing the Masser estate, the path climbs briefly once more. At the highest point of the circuit, a beautiful wayside cross stands between two ancient trees – the ‘summit cross’ of this circuit, so to speak. The descent back to Bad Schwanberg now follows a road branching off to the left. Towards the end, Schwanberg Castle comes into view, which is a lovely sight; a 10-minute detour leads up to it. This circuit ends at the parish church in Schwanberg.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach-Deutschlandsberg-Bad-Schwanberg.

Vom Parkplatz gegenüber Kirche führt der Weg die wenigen Meter zum Hauptplatz zurück. Hier befindet sich auch die Tourismusinformation, die mit ausgezeichnetem Karten- und Textmaterial ausgestattet ist. Am nordöstlichen Ende des schönen Hauptplatzes befindet sich die Apotheke. Hier dreht der Weg nach links in die Mainsdorferstraße. Diese führt an einer liebenswert antiquierten Greißlerei vorbei, in der man sowohl besichtigen, als auch einkaufen kann. Später zweigt die Route 11 nach links in die Bergstraße ab und folgt dieser über einen Kilometer aufwärts bis zu einer neuerlichen Gabelung. Der markierte Forstweg 11 verläuft nach links in den Graben und überquert den Weiherbach. Am Anwesen Masser vorbei geht es noch einmal kurz bergauf. Am höchsten Punkt der Runde steht zwischen zwei uralten Bäumen ein schönes Wegkreuz, sozusagen das Gipfelkreuz dieser Runde. Der Abstieg zurück nach Schwanberg folgt nun wieder links abzweigend einer Straße. Sehr schön kommt zum Ende hin noch das Schloss Schwanberg ins Bild, zu dem ein 10-minütiger Abstecher hinaufführt.
