The Zachgraben is a natural gem with a babbling brook and a mystical atmosphere around the Celtic tree circle.

The starting point for the walk is the car park at the Florlwirt inn (or possibly at the fire station in Gundersdorf). From the Florlwirt, head westwards, first descending some steps into the Zachgraben. At the house of the former Zachmühle, turn right and continue along the stream. At the next junction, take the path towards “Ofnerpeter”. Now cross the stream again via a footbridge, then follow a steeply ascending forest track under the Südautobahn bridge with its massive piers. Continue following the forest road uphill, then follow the markings to the right, descending towards the stream. Now cross the third footbridge over the Zachbach, past a ruined mill. At the junction: take the path along the stream. Cross the stream again and, shortly afterwards, ascend steeply under the Südautobahn.
We now reach the Ofnerpeter wine tavern. From here, the path climbs gently along the edge of the forest, past a wayside cross, and crosses the village road. Then, following the markings through the forest, we reach the village road in Farmi. Here, turn briefly left (signposted ‘Grabentschank’) and then immediately right off the road. We walk down to the Lemsitzbach stream and continue along the farm track to the Hackl vineyard “Grabentschank”. From here, the trail leads through vineyards, initially on a gentle slope, then steeper, across the Lemsitzbach to Grubberg, where we follow the main road for a short distance. At the signpost, we turn left, past the Höller nursery. Now we walk level through vineyards, then downhill through the woods to the Keltenkreis, and back to the starting point.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach-Deutschlandsberg.

Ausgangspunkt der Wanderung ist der Parkplatz beim Rüsthaus Gundersdorf oder direkt im Ort beim GH Florlwirt. Beim Rüsthaus westseitig über Weg 1 in den Graben hinunter bis zur Hubertuskapelle. Jetzt rechts 500m bachaufwärts. Hier befindet sich der vo den hiesigen Jägern bepflanzte Keltische Baumkreis mit Info-Tafeln, Brunnen, Rastplatz und Kinder-Mühlrad (20 Min.)Beim Florlwirt geht es ebenfalls westseitig zuerst über Stufen in den Zachgraben hinab. Weitere Einstiegsmöglickeiten entlang des Rundweges z. B. beim Buschenschank Ofnerpeter. Beim Haus der ehemaligen Zachmuehle rechts am Bach bleiben, (über den Steg gegenüber: Zachmuellerkreuz), und weiter den Bach entlang. Ab hier wieder Markierung. Bei der nächsten Abzweigung den Weg Richtung "Ofnerpeter" nehmen. Nun über einen Steg den Bach wieder queren, dann stärker steigend, auf einer Forststraße unter der Südautobahnbrücke mit gewaltigen Brückenpfeilern durch. Immer der Forststraße steigend folgen, dann Markierung rechts ab, fallend zum Bach.Nun den dritten Steg über den Zachbach queren vorbei an einer verfallenen Mühle. Bei Abzweigung: den Weg den Bach entlang nehmen. Wieder den Bach queren und kurz danach, stärker steigend unter der Südautobahn durch.Nun erreichen wir (nach insgesamt etwa 1 Stunde) den Buschenschank Ofnerpeter. Hier gibt’s einen Fischteich, ein Kleintiergehege und einen schönen Rastplatz. Ab hier am Waldrand leicht steigend, vorbei an einem Wegkreuz, die Gemeindestraße queren. Dann durch den Wald immer der Markierung folgend, bis zur Gemeindestraße in Farmi. Hier kurz nach links (Wegweiser "Grabentschank") und dann gleich wieder rechts von der Straße abbiegen. Wir wandern bis zum Lemsitzbach hinunter und weiter auf der Hofzufahrt bis zum Weinbau Hackl "Grabentschank" (bis hier ca. insges. 2 ¼ Stunden).Von hier führt der Wanderweg durch Weingärten, zuerst leicht, später stärker fallend, über den Lemsitzbach nach Grubberg, wo wir ein kurzes Stück der Gemeindestraße folgen. Beim Wegweiser biegen wir links ein, an der Gärtnerei Höller vorbei. Nun eben durch Weingärten, dann bergab durch den Wald zurück zum Keltenkreis, und auf demselben Weg zum Ausgangspunkt zurück.

The path leads through the Zachgraben, parts of which are completely unspoilt, over several footbridges, past ruined mills, along a beautiful stretch with views in Rosenhof, and on through vineyards in Farmi and Grubberg. A particularly lovely spot to rest is the Celtic Circle, located at the start of the Zachgraben. Please note: after rainy days, the Zachgraben can be a bit muddy over short stretches. At the Ofnerpeter wine tavern, you’ll be greeted by some amusing companions – raccoons!

Many starting points for our hikes in southern Styria can also be reached by public transport.

For a relaxed and sustainable journey, we recommend travelling by bus and train wherever possible. Depending on the region, additional local transport options are available.
