Along quiet paths to alpine pastures and peaks

Day 1: Arrival. After checking in, your group will enjoy a short guided tour of the town with your hosts. They will tell you about the long history of Murau and the secrets of this medieval holiday resort. In the evening, aperitif and subsequent dinner at the Hotel Lercher.

Day 2: Frauenalpe & Murau Castle. In the morning, your group will set off on an easy hike to warm up on the local mountain, the “Frauenalpe”. Once at the top, alongside the Apollonia Church, you’ll be treated to a stunning panoramic view of the peaks of the Niedere Tauern. Depending on your fitness level, you can choose between a short or longer route. Afterwards, the Murauer Hütte invites you to stop for refreshments and a convivial break.

Walking time: 2 hours. Distance: 6.17 km. EG: 400 m

In the late afternoon, your group can look forward to an exciting guided tour of Murau Castle, offering fascinating insights into the history of the Schwarzenberg family and the castle’s former mistress, Anna Neumann. 

Day 3: Excursion to the Funkel Lakes & Talkenschrein. In the idyllic alpine landscape, your guests will recharge their batteries. Passing a thundering waterfall, the path leads up to the wonderfully refreshing Funkel Lake, nestled in an impressive mountain backdrop. Ambitious hikers can extend the tour tothe next lake or even up to the summit of the Talkenschrein. 

Tip: At the waterfall near the starting point, the Hölzlerhütte invites you to stop for a bite to eat.
Walking time: 5 hours. Distance: 8.44 km. EG: 718 m

Day 4: St. Lambrecht & Grebenzen. On the way to Grebenzen, your group will stop at the mother abbey of Mariazell – the Benedictine Abbey of St. Lambrecht. The monumental building, with its numerous churches and historical features, is truly impressive. The abbey can be explored on a guided tour or at your own pace. In summer, a gondola ride up to Grebenzen is a great option. There, your guests can look forward to a scenic high-altitude hike featuring four peaks – from the Grebenzenhaus via the Dreiwiesenhütte to the Scharfen Eck. A stop for refreshments along the way rounds off the hike.

Walking time: 4 hours. Distance: 10.72 km. EG: 465 m

Day 5: Return journey via the Sölk Pass. For the return journey, we recommend the route over the Sölk Pass – one of the most impressive passes in the Lower Tauern. For a memorable finale, your group can choose between a short hike to Kaltenbachsee with a stop at the Kaltenbachalm, famous for its buttermilk, or a visit to the Steiner1888 loden factory, where the finest fabrics are 100% made in Austria.

Sölk Pass restrictions: No busses over 12 metres and 16 tonnes.
