On the THEO stage in Oberzeiring you can see the play "Die verlohrenen Ehre der Katharina Blum" by Heinrich Böll
The novella “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum” by Heinrich Böll (1917–1985), published in 1974, addresses the media’s smear campaigns against presumed sympathizers. As viewers, you observe the ordeal of housemaid Katharina Blum, who encounters the police-sought Ludwig Götten during the Cologne Carnival and falls in love with him. After a shared night, she assists him in escaping, which leads to her being targeted by the police and the prosecutor’s office. An influential mass newspaper, with access to the interrogation records, immediately puts Blum in the spotlight. It hesitates not to twist facts and engage in sensationalist reporting, ultimately destroying her social existence.
With this work, Böll vehemently protested against dehumanizing sensational journalism. The theme remains relevant to this day and has not lost any of its significance
