for winter explorers

Vast slopes blanketed in thick snow, majestic peaks, exciting snowshoe tours and endless cross-country trails – winter in the Murtal puts a thrill in the heart of every adventurer.

What could be more fun than dashing down the mountain roads on a toboggan ride with the whole family, having feasted on a hearty snack in a cosy chalet inn? There are many tempting mountain restaurants that also offer wonderful sledding options day or night. A classic winter experience in the Murtal that is hard to beat.

Ice skating is another fun activity. Glide across countless ice rinks: some are situated in town centres, like in Judenburg or Knittelfeld, while some are surrounded by mountains and verdant forests, like in Hohentauern, Gaal or Seckau.

Winter in the Murtal certainly isn't short of enjoyment!

In winter, the region is a paradise for any age. Perfect for anyone longing to experience a proper winter wonderland. There are all sorts of activities and opportunities available for discovering the snowy Murtal, and enjoying some time in its magical, crisp landscapes. The many different ski lifts invite both beginners and professionals to race down the slopes, but that's not the only thing there is to discover...

The perfect ski region for everyone!

on and off the slopes

In Hohentauern, you'll find the perfect family-friendly ski region. Including a magic carpet for the young ones, a button lift and a tow lift, this ski region offers excellently prepared pistes of natural snow situated within an idyllic mountain landscape.

Its great trails make Hohentauern an attractive spot for extensive cross-country skiing. Explore the many kilometres of trails surrounded by a picture-perfect snowy wonderland.

Every pro has to start somewhere. Beginner skiers will find an ideal place to start at the Schilift Pölstal – perfect for your first few tries. After some great fun on the slopes, you can warm up at the chalet before heading out for a spin on the natural ice rink.

The Schilift Kleinlobming offers skiing enjoyment in Lobmingtal. There's an excellently prepared piste where you can unleash your inner speed demon, and a steep descent for advanced skiers. At the "baby lift", even our littlest visitors can gain their first experience of the sport.

Another paradise for skiing newbies is the Schilift Obdach "Zwei Leit´n", where a magic carpet and a children's area await.

Experience a whole new dimension at the Gaaler Liften. The galaxies invite you to enjoy a "space skiing" experience, inspiring juniors to take their first few turns on the snow. Rise to new heights on the chair lift, before tackling the steep descent.

The Rieser Alm is the biggest ski region in the Murtal. It has four tow lifts transporting you to 12 km of fun on the slopes, on natural snow as well as artificial snow if required. Family-friendly descents, mogul skiing and forest paths are just waiting to be discovered. A steep slope and a fun park offer plenty of challenges for brave amateur skiers. Meanwhile, the Rieseralm also makes a popular base for your next ski tour.
