Get to know the snowshoe region of the Murtal!

There's a very special way of experiencing winter in the mountains ‒ one's that's perfect for anyone wishing to enjoy the freedom and stillness of the mountains outside of summer as well.

The 'slow food' of winter sport is the new trend of snowshoeing. Moving with a light tread, you will experience the splendour and natural beauty of fairy tale winter landscapes in the heart of Styria. We strap on our snowshoes and head out into the mountains and into the depths of our own soul. And where better to do so than in the midst of the Green Heart of Austria ‒ in the Murtal in Styria.

Just a few years ago, snowshoeing wasn't taken particularly seriously. Now, however, it has become a sport that offers people the chance to explore the mountains and forests in winter too. Away from the world of aprés ski and the slopes, we can experience winter at close quarters, strike out into the great outdoors and delight in the snow. The big advantage is that anyone who can hike can also go snowshoeing. Of course, it's important to bear a few things in mind to be able to enjoy snowshoeing properly: the right technique, the right choice of route or tour, and how we engage with nature.

If you want to experience your first steps on snowshoes and are not yet sure if it is your sport, rent snowshoes directly in the Murtal.

Even though many snowshoes look almost the same, you will find that good snowshoes make the ascent and descent much more relaxed. The snowshoes should give you particularly good grip, even on slippery ground, and the binding should fix your mountain boot well. Quick-release buckles, as the latest models already have, make strapping on particularly easy - even if you're already wearing gloves and can't bend over very well.

Take advantage of the first snowshoe taster zones in Austria for your first snowshoe tours to take your first steps in the snow safely.

The snowshoe trial zones in the Murtal are the perfect opportunity to give snowshoeing a try. For those who have never done such a hike before, this is the optimal opportunity to familiarise yourself with the equipment and explore the terrain on a trial hike.

The snowshoes make it easier to walk and stand on the powder snow. The practice zones lead directly to the most beautiful viewing spots in the region - the perfect opportunity to experience landscapes from a different perspective!
