Easy alpine hike along the newly marked snowshoe trail from the Bergerhube to the Moaralm in the Murtal adventure region.

A snowshoe hike to the Moaralm in the Murtal adventure region is a new experience every time, and since the beginning of 2022 snowshoe hikers can enjoy it even better. A newly marked snowshoe trail with pink signposts and directional arrows was planned and implemented in consultation with the hunting and forestry administration of Admont Abbey. This trail leads mainly on forest roads and climbs steadily to the hut of the Moaralm, which is not managed in winter. However, the hut is very suitable as a rest and snack area, especially on beautiful, sunny winter days. In front of us now lies the Moaralm, a wide basin between the Himmelkogel (2017 m) in the east, the Triebenfeldkogel (1884 m) in the west and the Moartörl in between. Those who want to continue hiking here to the Moartörl must have the necessary experience and the appropriate equipment. The hike is tour 27 in the Rother snowshoe guide about Styria.

From Trieben an der Pyhrn freeway A 9 via B114 in the direction of Hohentauern. After about 8 km turn left into the Triebental. The Bergerhube with the parking lot is located at the end of the Triebental road (14 km, approx. 20 minutes).

From Judenburg via the B114 to Hohentauern and continue to the turn-off on the right into the Triebental (50 km, approx. 50 minutes)

By car to snowshoe hiking - a few things to watch out for!

Good winter tires are an absolute MUST!Ice scraper, snow broom, de-icer for the door locks and a small shovel belong to the basic equipment.Put snow chains and a tow rope in the car, even if you are not good with them yourself. Helping and knowledgeable hikers are always available on the mountain!Clear the car completely of snow and ice, especially sweep off the roof of the car completely.When parking, make sure you leave room for other motorists.Always park so that the rest of the roadway remains clear for cars, logging trucks, and snow removal vehicles.Find out about the snow situation on the access road or parking facilities before setting off. (hut host, webcams).

The snowshoe hike begins directly at the Bergerhube parking lot (1), 1198 m, for which a fee is charged. We orientate ourselves by the pink signposts and turn left directly in front of the Bergerhube. The evenly ascending forest path is well signposted and marked red-white-red. After about 1.4 km we come to an intersection with a wooden bench and the signposts in the direction of Moaralm. Here at the junction Moaralm (2) we continue straight on until we soon see the pink directional arrows and the pink markings on the trees. Once back on the forest road, we have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. We follow the forest road until we again see the pink directional arrows in a bend to the right. The hiking trail continues straight ahead, in a hollow way, thus shortening the road. Shortly before our destination, we rejoin the forest road and a little later we see the huts of the Moaralm (3), 1539 m, on the right. The way back does not entirely follow the ascent route, although the markings and signage are clear.

There is no public transport connection to the starting point of the tour itself.
