A blend between road cycling and mountain biking

Gravel biking in Styria

Ride along the cycle routes of Schladming-Dachstein and Upper Styria, passing by impressive mountain ranges and highlights such as Mürzer Oberland Nature Park.

Cycle along the river Mur in the north, surrounded by the green mountains of the Lower Tauern and Seetal Alps. Continue all the way to the Thermal- and Spa Country with its Mediterranean climate. Styria boasts a great variety of tours, making it a popular destination for bike holidays. Among gravel bikers, the green heart of Austria is still a well-kept secret.

Start your gravel bike adventure

Sporty tours in the alpine north or easy trails in the Mediterranean south: All parts of Styria offer one-of-a-kind cycling spots for every taste. And there are some excellent tours for gravel bikers in the green heart of Austria.

Around the Dachstein

Roads, gravel or trails: Gravel bikes are suitable for all kinds of terrain. In the Schladming-Dachstein region, you can find a great variety of gravel biking tours. For instance, the Aich tour near Haus im Ennstal or the Sarstein tour in the Ausseerland-Salzkammergut region are popular with gravel bikers. Passing by Hoher Sarstein mountain and glistening lakes, you ride along 45 kilometres of gravel roads, suspension bridges and asphalt roads.

Gravel biking in the charming south

If you want to combine cycling with pleasure, southern Styria is the right place to go. Cycle along the river Mur or along the Styrian Wine Country Route, take a little detour to the surrounding hills and enjoy the lovely Wine Roads and the picturesque nature.

Another one-of-a-kind-tour is the Remschniggalm Tour. Remschnigg Alm is the southernmost mountain pasture of the federal state of Styria. Along the varied trail with asphalt and gravel sections, you can enjoy wine, fresh mountain air and splendid views. This cycling route also takes you past St. Pongratzen, where you can visit the nearby church. From the church tower’s viewing platform, you have a breathtaking 360-degree view all the way to Slovenia, southern Styria and the Schilcherland region.

Benefits of a gravel bike

Thanks to their special characteristics, gravel bikes provide maximum riding comfort:

  • The wide handlebars give you more control on uneven trail sections.
  • The extra-padded, narrow saddle keeps you comfortable, even on longer tours along the river cycle paths.
  • Carbon frames make gravel bikes particularly lightweight.
  • Aluminium or carbon forks provide the necessary suspension on rough terrain.
  • When it comes to the shifting system, you can select between more gears to make your bike faster or a chainring for less weight.
  • Sturdy and voluminous tyres ensure increased riding comfort and more control.

Great for kids: Cycling in Styria is also an unforgettable adventure for children!

There are special lowrider racks for luggage bags, so there’s nothing keeping you from going on that family cycling tour in Styria!
