Long but not too difficult ski tour through the Bärnbachtal valley via the Farnerwiese meadow to the summit of the Hochtürnach with a super view of the north side of the Hochschwab.

From Vienna, Eisenstadt: A2 Südautobahn, Semmeringschnellstraße S6, near Mürzzuschlag on the B23 Mariazeller Bundesstraße and Mürzsteg and Wegscheid to Gusswerk and on the Hochschwab Landesstrasse B24 to just before Wildalpen. From Linz: A1 Westautobahn to Knoten Voralpenkreuz, A9 to Windischgarsten, Unterlaussa, Altenmarkt, Grossreifling, Palfau at the Erzhalden junction turn off to Wildalpen. From Salzburg: A1 Westautobahn on A9 to Ardning/Admont exit, Gesäusebundesstrasse and B24 to Wildalpen. From Graz: A9 Pyhrnautobahn, exit, Traboch (near Leoben) via Präbichl/Eisenerz, Hieflau, Landl, Gams to Palfau at the Erzhalden junction turn off to Wildalpen.

After Wildalpen, follow the Hochschwab Bundesstraße B24 in the direction of Mariazell for 7.7 km and park before the tunnel and the bridge on the left-hand side.

The ski tour through the Bärnbachtal on the Hochtürnach initially leads along a forest road for a little more than 6 km until you march SE to the Farnerwiese at the hunting lodge at the Bärenbachsattel. On a somewhat steeper ascent, you overcome a nameless hill and descend briefly to the Farnerwiese. From there it is advisable to turn east to reach the broad ridge of the Mitterhalt.

The summit of the Hochtürnach can only be reached by climbing without skis.
