Radelikat (Eibiswald) - Biking with Pleasure in Schilcherland

Open
Signposted tour no. 151

This pleasure tour more than lives up to its name. Along the 30 km long, leisurely cycling route, no less than 14 regional showcase businesses invite you to visit and taste local delicacies.

The circular route is signposted in both directions starting from the towns of Eibiswald and Wies and leads along remote side roads through the south-west Styrian hill country of Schilcherland.

It pays to allow a little more time to sample the specialities on offer at your leisure and to enjoy the beautiful countryside. In addition to the culinary stops, it is also worth stopping at the red deer enclosure of the Pauritsch winery or enjoying the view from the panoramic tower of the Garber wine & gourmet world. A special highlight of the tour is a visit to the Strutz Mühle, the most beautiful place in Austria 2020.

The Eibiswald variant of the RADELIKAT Genusstour starts at the Kirchplatz in Eibiswald and can be ridden in both directions and is signposted No. 151. The description is counter-clockwise. At the vicarage there is also a large overview board with all the cycling & mountain bike tours in the region. Immediately after leaving the village in a northerly direction, the first ascent begins to the Pichlippi vineyard and wine tavern (gourmetpoint).

After crossing the B76, the route leads to Haiden to the next gourmet establishment: Weingut & Winzerzimmer Peiserhof. The route continues along the "Kohlenstraße" to Vordersdorf, where it is worth visiting the farm of the Jauk-Safran family vlg. Ponsteng (gourmetpoint). Pumpkin seed products can be tasted and bought. Now the route goes steeply uphill to Etzendorf, where after a few kilometres the next farm is already waiting along the route. A short detour to Patrick Garber Weine (gourmetpoint) is definitely worthwhile. A little more than 150 metres in altitude have to be overcome before you reach the Hofkäserei Kronabetter (gourmetpoint) in Kraß. On the left, the trail continues slightly downhill to the Müller vlg. Kraßhoisl (gourmetpoint). The road then descends a little more into the valley of the Sulm, where you only ride on the main road for a very short time before turning right again to Kogl. Passing narrow farm crossings, the route continues to the Pauritsch adventure winery (gourmetpoint). The route leads directly through the farm and disappears into an unpaved section of forest downhill to the red deer enclosure. Along the enclosure you can observe the red deer of the Pauritsch family. After this short "off-road" section, you are already in Weidenbach. From there it is not far to the Buschenschank Pühringer vlg. Löscherannerl (gourmetpoint). Well fortified, you roll on to the Schilcherei & Brennerei Jöbstl (gourmetpoints).

From here, if you have enough time and energy, you can follow the road up to the most beautiful place in Austria 2020, the Strutz Mühle (gourmetpoint). No longer an insider tip, but a "must" for every guest in Schilcherland.

Whether with or without a detour to the Strutz Mühle, the trail briefly turns onto a forest road at the two Jöbstl farms. Soon you are back on asphalt and arrive in Wernersdorf. The RADELIKAT continues to the Ab-Hof Verkauf Lipp (gourmetpoint). The farm offers various homemade products for tasting and, of course, also for sale. After Wernersdorf, another climb begins with about 150 metres of altitude difference in the direction of Buchenberg. After about 4 kilometres, there is another short section on a dirt road that leads directly to the Garber Wine & Pleasure World (gourmetpoint) with its panorama tower and famous woolly pigs. Leave the Garber farm and immediately afterwards you come to the next gourmet farm, the Buschenschank Körbisch. Now it is almost all downhill back to Eibiswald.

TIP: The RADELIKAT can also be ridden in both directions starting from Wies (signposted with no. 251).
