Arrival from southern Austria/ItalyVia Klagenfurt on the S 37 past St. Veit/Glan, Treibach and Friesach. In Friesach continue towards Vienna, via Dürnstein and Wildbad towards Neumarkt. After the gorge and just before St. Marein, turn right towards Mühlen. Follow the main road, then turn left to Mühlen. Turn right through the town center and follow the road to the Tonnerhütte.

We start at the Tonnerhütte car park and follow the gently ascending forest path to the first hairpin bend, after which we turn right onto the footpath. We walk uphill along the meadow and reach Hohe Hald. We keep to the right  (towards the northeast/east) and then turn left (towards the north) at Lavantseehöhe (2,250 m) to reach the summit of the Zirbitzkogel along the ridge. Just before the summit is the Zirbitzkogel hut, which invites us to stop for a bite to eat. Coming from the summit, we pass the hut on the right and follow trail marker 320, which takes us back to the Lavantsee plateau on the connecting path. Once there, we continue straight ahead in a southerly direction to the Fuchskogel and on along the path, which slopes gently southwards, to the Stoana hut (approx. 1,750 m). The trail leads across the “Streitwiesen” to the Judenburger Kreuz and on to the St. Martiner Hut. We follow the forest road in a southwesterly direction to the junction of the footpath to St. Martin am Silberberg. We walk along the moderately sloping Carinthian border trail through high forest to the Gnos hunting lodge. We hike along the gently sloping access road for just under a kilometer until it meets a gravel road in the valley. We follow the municipal road to St. Martin am Silberberg.
