Once merchants trekked south along this route, from Salzburger Land, through Styria, to the Slovenian border and the historical town of Bad Radkersburg. Follow them along the Mur through lush natural scenery, which is home to over 200 species of bird. If you are a fan of contrasts, you will have just as much fun on the secluded farmsteads of mountain farmers in Lungau as in the pulsating state capital of Graz, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site and City of Design.
Your journey takes you into Thermenland Steiermark (Styrian Spa Country), past castles and ruined forts, through narrow sections of valleys and wide hollows. Those with a thirst for knowledge get their money's worth: Stübing Open-Air Museum, St. Ruprecht Wood Museum and the Murauer Beer Museum await you along the way. The River Mur Cycle Trail and Styria welcome you. Along the way, you will also encounter international cycling tours – as EuroVelo 9 is also run on the Spielfeld-Bad Radkersburg section and EuroVelo 14 on the St. Michael-Graz section.
