We start the hike at the parish church in Kapfenstein, to the Handspur. Via the Handspur we first go down the steep slope of the Tuffschlots towards Bad Gleichenberg and later via Streuobstwieden to the country road. After crossing the road, the trail leads us along small side roads and forest paths, between vineyards and elder plantations to the Gleichenberger Kogel. At the Trassstein quarry we reach the backbone, which leads us south through the woods of the Gleichenberger Kogel, past the Mühlstein quarry to Bad Gleichenberg.Through the spa gardens and along the Krügeleiweg trail, we continue along the backbone via Steinberg to the Stradner Kogel. After crossing its extensive basalt plateau, we reach the Waltrafelsen. We continue via Jammberg and Jammzeil first to Kölldorf, where we cross the country road at the Buschenschank Fassold and reach the Lutzkapelle chapel. We soon reach Kapfenstein after a short loop at the fish pond. A steep branch path finally leads us to the Kapfenstein municipal office (GeoInfo) and back to the starting point, the parish church!
TIP: Let's take the time and learn a lot in the GeoInfo about the genesis of the region.
