A holiday for all the senses

Cultural delights out in nature

Styria’s cultural riches find the perfect showcase in the great outdoors: castles and palaces set in the midst of awe-inspiring natural scenery; idyllic open-air museums on historical or contemporary subjects. The wonderful landscapes in the Thermen- & Vulkanland also make unique cultural backdrops.

In the warmest months of the year, from spring until autumn, culture is gladly brought outdoors. Under open skies you are in harmony with space and natural landscapes – in meadows, vineyards and flower gardens, in castle parks, town parks and vibrant interior courtyards. It is a tradition that has gone on since the year dot, as the traditional festivals and customs demonstrate. Contemporary culture too finds an evocative stage amid Styria’s landscapes. A starry evening sky becomes a concert hall, a garden becomes a reading room, a public space becomes a theatre stage – and all of them bring joy to spectators’ hearts.

Culture meets picnic

For maximum pleasure, why not combine nature, culinary delights and culture? All you have to do is spread out a picnic blanket and let the beautiful surroundings work their magic on you as you nibble your way through regional delicacies. The Thermen- & Vulkanland wins visitors over with its splendid picnic spots: in the vineyards of Kapfenstein Castle, for example, or perhaps beneath the 1,000-year-old oak in Bierbaum, or on the “Weinwanderweg der Sinne” (“Wine Road of the Senses”) in St. Anna am Aigen.  The picnic concerts hosted by styriarte also count as a high point on the events calendar.
