Gourmet Locations

The tables would buckle if we tried to serve all of the Thermen- & Vulkanland’s culinary accomplishments at once. Behind every tranquil vineyard lies a culinary oasis just waiting to be discovered.

The region is overflowing with top gourmet attractions to suit any taste: classic restaurants and inns, a wealth of award-winning restaurants, farmers’ markets, wine shops, local grocery stores (known as “Greißlerei”), sophisticated factories with rooms for sampling and buying, traditional “Buschenschänke” and “Heurige” wine taverns, and lockdown-tested self-service huts dotted along the hiking trails – in short, a huge regional marketplace with countless gourmet pleasure spots.

Gourmet "Greisslerein" in plentiful abundance

Local grocery stores are veritable lands of milk and honey. Sample the delicacies to your stomach’s content, and pile your basket to the brim with delicious goodies to take home: a gift for virtually all the senses. Southeast Styria is a region that knows how to be creative: you only have to look at the truffle-flavoured pumpkin spread by Johann Koller or the young asparagus in balsamic vinegar from Reicher to realise this... Or the damson chutney by Bettina Fink, the aromatic honey from Imkerei Kohl, sheep’s cheese, wrapped in “Neusetzer” (white Mangalica bacon)... The list goes on.

Winegrowing estates & wine shops

The Thermen- & Vulkanland is a paradise for wine-lovers. Around 1,200 businesses grow mainly white wines on a volcanic terroir. Almost all winegrowers offer their own cellar tours and tastings. Simply phone ahead to arrange a visit. If you’d like to sample the products of several businesses in one place, we highly recommend visiting a wine shop. One example is the “Vinothek” in Klöch, where you can sample Klöch’s famous Traminers. Wine lovers will also find a large selection at the Gesamtsteirische Vinothek (Total Styrian Wine Shop). You can sample around 220 different wines from Styria’s three winegrowing regions (Vulkanland Steiermark, South Styria and West Styria) by the glass, and maybe even follow up with a purchase. Further wine shops include: the Vinothek in Bad Radkersburg, the Bauernstadl in Feldbach, and Sissi’s Weinbar in Feldbach.
