Schöckl
Graz's local mountain
Located in the immediate vicinity of the Styrian capital, the Schöckl is a year-round recreational area, hiking paradise, adventure playground and culinary highlight all in one. With its striking shape, the Schöckl dominates the landscape at 1,445 metres above sea level.
Thanks to this varied range of leisure activities, Graz's local mountain is the ideal destination for the whole family.
The idyllic municipality of Sankt Radegund looks down on Graz from the southern slope of the Schöckl. The spa town is the perfect starting point for exploring the diversity of the mountain and the entire region. As early as the 19th century, the newly built cold water spa attracted a large number of international guests to the region. The spa, numerous villas and the springs connected by idyllic spring paths characterise the townscape and landscape around Sankt Radegund. And even today, the spa town is still very popular with those seeking peace and quiet and proximity to nature.
From here, you can hike or cycle on and around the Schöckl, or experience it at a leisurely pace in the gondola. Even on the way up, the Schöckl offers countless possibilities – but whether you put on your hiking boots, unpack your bike or take a seat in the gondola, you will always be rewarded with breathtaking views.
The market town of Semriach is nestled on a green plateau north of the Schöckl mountain and is a true hiking and holiday paradise. Particularly well-known is the impressive Lurgrotte Semriach, Austria's largest water-active stalactite cave. But Semriach has much more to offer: whether you are a horse lover, biker, family or passionate hiker – everyone will find their own personal adventure here. A special highlight is the wildly romantic Kesselfallklamm gorge, which delights nature lovers with its unspoilt beauty. The experience is rounded off by first-class gastronomy and popular excursion restaurants serving regional specialities in a cosy atmosphere.
WINTER ON THE SCHÖCKL
The Schöckl is also a worthwhile destination in winter: snowshoeing, tobogganing, breathtaking sunrises, activity days with free winter adventures for children and young people, and year-round downhill experiences – the Schöckl Trail Area awaits you.
Hiking on the Schöckl
The Schöckl hiking paradise is truly diverse, as narrow paths for sure-footed hikers and wide forest roads for leisurely walkers lead to the western and eastern peaks around Graz's local mountain. Sankt Radegund and Semriach also offer many beautiful themed trails as alternatives for every taste and season.

A resource-saving journey is possible by bicycle and the RegioBus 250, which runs from Jakominiplatz directly to the valley station of the Schöckl cable car and to the Schöck-Schöcklbartl and Schöcklkreuz stops.
