Special guided tour through the Gurlitt exhibition

Bad Aussee

About the offer

The exhibition "Wolfgang Gurlitt - Art Dealer and Profiteer" at the Kammerhofmuseum is a companion show to the exhibition "Journey of Images" at the Lentos Museum Linz, curated by Elisabeth Nowak-Thaller. The two exhibitions organized by Lentos are projects of the "Capital of Culture 2024".
The exhibition shows works of art of great value and provides information about the dazzling personality of the art dealer who chose Bad Aussee as his home in 1944. Gurlitt lived and worked here for a good two decades with his extended family, which included Lilly Agoston. In 1949, he organized a groundbreaking exhibition of modern and contemporary art in the Kurmittelhaus.
In 1946, Gurlitt took over as director of the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz, now the Lentos Kunstmuseum, which manages a problematic legacy with its collection stored in Bad Aussee.
The Kammerhof Museum's contribution to the exhibition shows that Gurlitt was involved in the lively cultural life of Aussee in the immediate post-war period. It was created by the two historians Hans Michael Roithner and Wolfgang Eckel.
