From Vienna via the A2 Südautobahn highway and the S6 Semmering expressway to the Kindberg exit. Here through the Stanzertal valley on the Schanzsattel-Landesstraße L114 to Fischbach.

From Graz via the Weizer-Bundesstraße B72 to Birkfeld and from here via the Schanzsattel-Landesstraße L114 to Fischbach.

From Linz/Salzburg/Munich via the Pyhrnautobahn A9 and the Semmering-Schnellstraße S6 to the Kindberg exit. Continue as above.

Fischbach, village square (free)

From our starting point - the village square in Fischbach - we walk slightly uphill in a northerly direction past Veronika's herb farm
After this we turn right towards Glatzhofer on path no. 7
We follow this leisurely path past flower-decorated farmhouses and enjoy the wonderful view of the mountain spa town of Fischbach and Eastern Styria
After a short break at the “Glatzhofer”, we take the same leisurely walk back or extend the hike via a short, very steep path to the actual end point at the Schneidhofer Kreuz cross
From there we either hike back the same way or walk in the direction of Teuflestein to the Untere Halterhütte (No. 740. From there we follow the blue “Alpsteig” markings to the left to Fischbach
Peter Rosegger already hiked this trail. We rejoin the Fischbacher Höhenstraße at the Ofenlurger farm and return to Fischbach via no. 7

A few tips on correct and fair behaviour in the forest: (Source: www.bundesforste.at )

Hikers should avoid visits to the forest about 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active during this time.

Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any rubbish in the forest.

Camping and lighting fires are strictly forbidden in the forest!

In principle, every person is allowed to pick 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for personal use. It is only prohibited if the forest owner expressly forbids it.

Route description

Before starting the hike, check the possibilities for refreshments, including opening times, or pack appropriate food and drink.
