A particularly beautiful place is Fernitz-Mellach, about 12 km south of the capital of Graz. It's not for nothing that Fernitz already won its 6th title of "Most Beautiful Styrian Flower Village" since 2004.

About the region
Directly in the centre of town, the Archduke John Park invites you to stroll with its great diversity of hostas. There are many legends about the origins of the parish church of Mariatrost, one of the oldest pilgrimage destinations in Styria. It is interesting and architecturally valuable in any case, not least due tot he numerous statues and representations of Mary. And as is fitting for a proper place of pilgrimage, there is also a really good guesthouse by the church and also a cafe on the church square with a great selection of delicious sweet flour-based dishes and homemade ice cream.
