Slow Trips: Heidenmehl becomes delicious Sterz

Hartberg

About the offer

Heidenmehl is turned into delicious Sterz!
Take a look behind the scenes of being a miller. The master miller himself will guide you through the traditional, 500-year-old mill. Afterwards, you will be allowed to grind flour yourself and learn, under the guidance of the owner Roman Posch, how to cook sterz with it (which you will of course also be allowed to eat).
  • Visit a more than 500 year old mill with a 100 year old wooden mill mill and grind your own grain into flour.
  • The Posch Mill is not a museum, but a family business where flour is produced daily.
  • Learn how to cook a delicious dish from just three ingredients - flour, water and butter.
What does the work of a miller actually look like? Take a look behind the scenes at the nearly 500-year-old Posch Mill and find out. Already in its third generation, this mill processes high-quality grain products. Here, they grind, sift, process and sell every day. The tour starts with a guided tour of the old mill by the master miller himself. After taking a closer look at the grain, we continue - true to the motto "from grain to flour" - and grind buckwheat ourselves into the finest Heiden flour. From the rotating fluted roller to the swinging plansifter, there is much to marvel at, to feel, to move and to try out. To relax, take a short walk through Hartberg with the order to buy more ingredients for the sterz: e.g. bacon, lard, arugula, cheese, herbs, etc. Back at the mill, the ingredients are cooked together under the guidance of the master miller to make a delicious Sterz.

About the serviceprovider

The third generation of the Posch family has been producing the high-quality grain products according to artisan tradition. The company was continuously developed and expanded. We always pay attention to organic production in harmony with nature.

The almost 500-year-old mill is not a museum, but still a production facility in which grinding, sieving, further processing and sale takes place every day. Large and small amounts of grain are processed into the finest flour in the mill. Not only grain, but also gluten-free and other special products are processed in the Posch mill.

Tradition and Technology
From the point of view of Slow Food and Slow Travel, the Posch family were able to revitalize the older part of the mill as part of an EU funded project. During the design, special attention was paid to the use of natural materials and the integration of analogue techniques. For example, the process graphics of the mill were not printed digitally, but drawn by hand with chalk on a large blackboard by the design team from "Augenhaptik" and our logo is already visible at the entrance on an original enamel sign.
