On a hot summer day, climb a mountain peak in the early morning and cool off afterwards with a refreshing swim in a crystal-clear lake. Or in winter, take in the snow-covered mountain landscape and enjoy the peaceful silence. No matter the season or the way in which the natural treasures of the Murau region are explored, the experience is always a true benefit for both body and mind.

Nature experiences in every season

Preber, Zirbitzkogel, Kreischberg, Greim, Grebenzen, Frauenalpe, Lachtaler Zinken, Kornock: A total of eight peaks are among the most striking mountains in the region, inviting you to experience nature in a variety of ways from spring to winter.

The routes up the peaks are just as varied as the peaks themselves. There is a choice of leisurely hikes as well as challenging tours that will make the hearts of true mountain enthusiasts beat faster. The Via Natura, which leads over 126 kilometres and in ten stages through the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park, offers extensive long-distance hiking pleasure.

In winter, the towering mountain giants are transformed into a winter sports paradise. Skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing - there are no limits to an eventful day. The atmosphere is comparatively tranquil for gentle winter sports such as ski touring or winter hiking. Away from the hustle and bustle on the slopes, the winter landscape can be discovered in a relaxed manner.

Those who prefer to stay active in the valley during the winter months will find numerous perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails in the Murau region. They offer ideal conditions for varied cross-country skiing experiences amidst the peaceful winter landscape. Some of these trails have also been awarded the Styrian Cross-Country Ski Trail Quality Seal.
