Wagna in der Südsteiermark

Wagna, situated at the confluence of the Sulm and Mur rivers, is one of those Styrian communities that can look back on an eventful and long historical development. Wagna is also an ideal starting point for exploring the Südsteiermark Nature Park by bike. 

In the area settled by Celts, a Roman settlement was founded around 15 BC, which was elevated to a town in 70 AD. The name Flavia Solva includes the name of the city's founder Flavius and the name of the river Sulm - "Solva". Flavia Solva was one of 11 Roman settlements in Austria endowed with city rights and the only one in present-day Styria. Around 170 AD Flavia Solva was burnt down in the Marcomannic War, then rebuilt and finally totally destroyed in the 5th century in the course of the migration of peoples.

Nowadays, Wagna is an ideal starting point for exploring the Südsteiermark Nature Park by bike, as the municipality lies directly on the Mur Cycle Path (R2).

Throughout the year you have the opportunity to visit great events in Wagna. Cabarets, theatre, concerts and much more - indoors and outdoors.
One highlight is the Römern. From May to September, this event highlight takes place every Wednesday in the so-called Roman village, which also offers space for many different events.
