A fabulous themed walking trail through the hiking village of Soboth in the south of the Schilcherland region.

The village path invites visitors to take a leisurely stroll and offers a glimpse into the village’s philosophy of changing one’s own perspective. To aid this, a number of fascinating local legends are featured along the way, designed to inspire visitors to bring their impressions to life through their own imagination. The St James’s Wall by the side of the path invites visitors to literally hang up their old walking boots. It is said in the village that if you make a wish to the village’s patron saint at the same time, St James will grant it. The trail starts at the Messner Inn in Soboth and follows the village road past the Mörth Inn to the next right-hand bend, where a signpost already leads into the small wood. From there, the trail passes the former Soboth primary school, through the village centre and past the parish church to the Jakobihaus, before returning to the giant hiking boot at the Messner Inn.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach–Deutschlandsberg–Bad Schwanberg–Hollengg–Steyerregg–Wies–Eibiswald–Soboth.
There is plenty of parking available at Gasthof Messner or at the station.

Der Weg startet beim Gasthof Messner in Soboth und führt entlang des Ortsweges vorbei am Gasthof Mörth bis zur nächsten Rechtskurve wo ein Wegweiser bereits in den kleinen Wald führt. Vorbei an der ehemaligen Volksschule Soboth führt der Weg durch das Ortszentrum von Soboth, vorbei an der Pfarrkirche bis zum Jakobihaus und wieder zurück zum Riesenwanderschuh beim Gasthof Messner.

The Jakobihaus, situated in the heart of the hiking village of Soboth, is a hub for traditional and contemporary crafts, as well as contemporary art and lifestyle. It hosts regular exhibitions in the gallery on the upper floor, a permanent exhibition and shop selling arts and crafts with a focus on local wood, an information point, and serves as the central starting point for hikes in the hiking village of Soboth.

Many starting points for our hikes in southern Styria can also be reached by public transport.

For a relaxed and sustainable journey, we recommend travelling by bus and train wherever possible. Depending on the region, additional local transport options are available.
