The hike along the Mur River from Spielfeld to Mureck takes you through Styria’s largest marshland area. It’s a particularly special experience in the spring—nature is coming to life all around, and the spring flowers are at their most beautiful.

The tour starts at the train station in Spielfeld, and you follow the yellow trail markers toward Mureck. After crossing the Mur River bridge, turn right and follow the paved road until you reach the riverbank, then follow the red-white-red marked trail downstream. You’ll find the large patch of wild garlic in the spring toward the end of the hike, which concludes at the Mureck watermill. You’ll get to know part of Styria’s largest floodplain. Enjoy the sound of the water and let nature work its magic on you. If you want to cross to the Slovenian side, you’ll need to ring the bell to summon the ferryman, who will take you across for free.

Coming from Graz via the A9 (approx. 50 km), then take the Spielfeld exit.
Park for free at the train station in Spielfeld with no time limit.

Wir starten beim Bahnhof Spielfeld-Straß und orientieren uns an den gelben Wegweisern in Richtung Mureck. Nach der Murbrücke zweigen wir rechts ab und folgen der Asphaltstraße, bis wir unmittelbar zum Murufer gelangen und dem rot-weiß-rot markierten Pfad flussabwärts folgen. Nach ca. 7,5 km erreichen wir die Einkehrmöglichkeit „Zur Hitt´n“ und die Murfähre. Ein kurzes Stück geht es der Straße entlang bis wir rechts abzweigen um in Ufernähe weiterzuwandern. Das große Bärlauchvorkommen finden wir gegen Ende der Wanderung und den Abschluss bei der Schiffsmühle Mureck.
