The highlight and highest point of this sunny route along quiet roads and forest paths is the impressive Hollenegg Castle in Bad Schwanberg. The route there winds through a picture-perfect landscape dotted with unique natural features, both large and small. Those wishing to soak up the scenery even more should consider stopping for a break at one of the cosy wine taverns.

Start at the main square in Bad Schwanberg, walk past the pharmacy and onto Mainsdorfer Straße. Continue to follow the sign for the Hollenegg Castle Circular Trail 1 to the Stullnegg Bridge. You will soon have the pleasure of walking along the Schilcher Wine Route. You will pass numerous wineries and wine taverns offering wonderful spots to stop and relax. Opposite the Eckfastl Chapel, turn off towards the edge of the forest and you will soon reach the main road. You will now pass many beehives along the way until you walk past the animal and forest nature trail to Hollenegg Castle. You will then reach the village of Hollenegg and follow the Stullneggbach stream back to the Stegweber inn. You will now return to the main square in Bad Schwanberg for the final stretch, following the route you are already familiar with.

From Graz, take the A2 motorway towards Klagenfurt and exit at ‘Lieboch’. Continue on the B76 towards Deutschlandsberg and Schwanberg.

Von einem der Parkplätze außerhalb der Kurzparkzone geht es zum Hauptplatz in Bad Schwanberg und von dort an der Apotheke vorbei links abzweigend in die Mainsdorfer Straße. An der Schule und am Sportplatz vorüber wandern wir dem Schild Schloss Hollenegg Rundwanderweg 1 folgend zur Stullneggbrücke. Wir überqueren den Bach und wenden uns vor dem Gasthof Stegweber nach links. Ein Stichweg führt an der Stockbahn vorbei nach rechts hinauf zum Buschenschank Kogelhohl und durch die Weingärten weiter zur Schilcher Weinstraße. Dieser folgen wir links abzweigend einige Meter bergauf zum Buschenschank Eckfastl. Das Gebäude ist zumindest 300 Jahre alt, der prickelnd junge Schilcher stammt vom Vorjahr. Der Rundweg 1 aber zweigt gegenüber der Eckfastlkapelle nach rechts ab und verläuft zuerst am Waldrand entlang, dann im Wald hinab zur Bundesstraße. Beim Feuerwehrhaus Rettenbach wandern wir schon wieder nach links aufwärts und treffen auf die vielen Bienenstöcke beim Gehöft Neger. Am Tier- und Waldlehrpfad vorbei geht es über Hoferberg weiter zum Schloss Hollenegg. Beim bald folgenden, ehemaligen Gasthaus zweigt der Weg nach links ab und folgt nun der Straße in den Ort Hollenegg. Die Runde schließt sich indem der Weg in Neuberg nach links abzweigt und dann im Talboden dem Mariazellerweg 506, bzw. dem Stullneggbach zurück zum Gasthaus Stegweber folgt. Der letzte Teil retour auf den Hauptplatz in Bad Schwanberg verläuft auf der bereits bekannten Route.
