A walking experience for connoisseurs and nature lovers. A picture-perfect landscape: tall lime trees, sweet chestnuts and the Klapotetz windmill add character to the rolling countryside. Add to that some sparkling wine and delicious, traditional cuisine – a temptation that hardly anyone can resist.

You start at the church square, passing the vicarage, following the ‘orange Schilcher glass marker’ across the bridge, where you can see the Saggau river with its fish ladder. After crossing the main road, turn left towards the secondary school, where you can still see the administration building of the former steelworks, which employed over 600 people around 1870. Now follow the Mariazellerweg (No. 506) to the stately Aichberger farm, from where you have a magnificent view of Eibiswald. Follow forest and meadow paths to the Hohl farm with its Highland cattle and on to the Safran-Filatsch inn. Then turn left and follow the road to the Garber Wine & Gourmet World with its observation tower, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the countryside. Once you arrive in the Ferdinanndstal valley, there is an information board about the history of glass in Eibiswald.
After a short walk across the main road, turn left and head uphill to the Jöbstl Stammhaus, known as Stari. Sample the estate’s own wines and home-brewed beer. Continue past the idyllic pond to the Aiblerkogel. From there, it’s a gentle downhill walk through vineyards and woods. Along the way, you’ll pass the Aibler oil press, where you can take a tour of the press, sample pumpkin seed oil and seeds, and pick up a “souvenir”. From the press, you’ll take a leisurely walk over hills, meadows and through woods along the Eibiswald Circular Trail R1, where, after about 4 km, you’ll arrive back at the starting point in Eibiswald.

You also have the option of taking a shortcut via an alternative route.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach-Deutschlandsberg. Continue on to Eibiswald.

Ab dem Kirchplatz am Pfarrhof vorbei, der „Orangen Schilcherglasmarkierung“ folgend, über die Brücke, wo Sie auf die Saggau mit ihrer Fischleiter blicken.

Nach dem Überqueren der Bundesstraße links zur Mittelschule, wo Sie noch das Verwaltungsgebäude des ehemaligen Stahlwerks erkennen können, in dem um 1870 über 600 Leute beschäftigt waren. Nun wandern Sie am Mariazellerweg (Nr. 506) zum herrschaftlichen Hof Aichberger, von dem Sie einen herrlichen Blick auf Eibiswald haben. Über Wald und Wiesenwegen zum Hof Hohl mit Hochlandrindern und weiter zum Gasthof Safran-Filatsch. Dann links abbiegen der Straße entlang zur Wein- & Genusswelt Garber mit seinem Aussichtsturm, von dem Sie herrlich ins Schilcherland blicken. Angekommen im Ferdinanndstal gibt es eine Infotafel über die Geschichte von Glas in Eibiswald. Nach einer kurzen Überquerung der Bundesstraße geht es links hoch zum Jöbstl Stammhaus vlg. Stari. Verkosten sie sich durch hauseigene Weine und selbstgebrautem Bier. Über die idyllische Teichanlage geht es weiter zum Aiblerkogel. Tipp: Vom Aibler Kogel haben Sie einen traumhaften Ausblick nach St. Lorenzen, Aibl und Eibiswald.

Danach geht’s bequem durch Weingärten und Wälder bergab. Entlang des Weges kommen Sie bei der Aibler Ölpresse vorbei, wo Sie die Möglichkeit haben, die Presse zu besichtigen, Kernöl und Kerne zu verkosten und sich ein „Souvenir“ mitzunehmen. Von der Presse wandern Sie gemütlich über Hügel, Wiesen und Wälder entlang des Eibiswalder Rundweges R1, wo Sie nach ca. 4 km wieder beim Ausgangspunkt in Eibiswald angekommen sind. Nun ist es Zeit für eine Stärkung in den zahlreichen Cafés und Gasthäusern.

Wenn Sie die Abkürzung durch das „Stille Tal“ nehmen wollen, dann müssen Sie zurück zur Markierung „Oranges Glas“ bzw. dem Wollschweinwanderweg Richtung Eibiswald auf dem Nordsüd-Weitwanderweg, den der Eibiswalder Carl Hermann begründete.

Beim Abstieg können Sie das Gefühl der Weitwanderer, endlich am Ziel zu sein, nachvollziehen.

Vorbei an der Gärtnerei Knotz, dem Weitwanderstein und der Kreuzkirche wandern Sie zurück in den Kloepfermarkt.
