Gourmet Journey - In the Footsteps of Archduke Johann
Select your desired date and prepare to be surprised. Follow in the footsteps of Archduke Johann and his wife Anna Plochl. This gourmet journey takes you along the Archduke Johann Trail through a place rich in history, tradition, and impressive locations. You will be part of a mixed group (max. 20 people) and explore these places together. A brief welcome and some information about the day's itinerary will take place at Kaufhaus Hubmann; you will then stroll individually to Stainz Castle and subsequently back to the Stainzerhof Hotel.
At the Joanneum, we kindly ask you to collect your tickets directly at the box office, and then the tour of the Archduke Johann exhibition will begin.
You will be escorted to SchlossCafe, where you will receive the sparkling pearl before you are expected for dinner at the hotel restaurant Stainzerhof at 6:00 PM.
Enjoy a delicious Archduke Coffee with pastry at Café Hubmann and then take a stroll over the Jakob-Rosolenz Stairs to Stainz Castle.
At Stainz Castle, impressive exhibitions await you on the topics of Archduke Johann, hunting, and agriculture, as well as the tour “Limonisoß á la Anna Plochl” ‒ enjoyment meets culture in Stainz.
To prepare for the subsequent three-course dinner at Stainzerhof, you will be welcomed with the aperitif “Archduke Johann’s Sparkling Pearl” at the SchlossCafe Stainz.
You will then go down the Klosterhöhe to Stainzerhof, where you can enjoy a delightful culinary evening.
Program:
Meeting point: 2:00 PM, Café Hubmann. The café Hubmann serves a delicious crumbled Linzer torte with freshly roasted Stainzer coffee or “Archduke’s Chocolate”. Walk to the Joanneum via the old school path.
3:30 PM Joanneum Stainz Castle “Limonisoß á la Anna Plochl” ‒ enjoyment meets culture in Stainz. In the Archduke Johann Museum, you will also encounter the Styrian prince from his private side! When Johann first met Anna Plochl, the daughter of the postmaster of Aussee, at the Toplitzsee in August 1819, he saw in her the embodiment of his ideal woman.
Archduke Johann placed great value on frugality and simplicity, desiring a “housewife.” “You Habsburgs might be able to govern – but we Plochls can cook better,” Anna Plochl is said to have remarked, and during this tour, you will also gain interesting insights into the noble household. 5:00 PM SchlossCafe Stainz. Aperitif: “Archduke Johann’s Sparkling Pearl.” The perfect prelude to a classic menu that would surely have delighted Archduke Johann: offered in the variants Schilcher and White, “Archduke Johann's Sparkling Pearl” awakens the taste buds and heightens anticipation for the feast! 6:00 PM The Stainzerhof pampers your palate with the three-course menu “From Johann’s & Anna’s Kitchen” featuring soup, main course, and dessert. If a vegetarian or vegan option is required or if there are any allergies to consider, please inform us at the time of booking. In the footsteps of Archduke Johann, experience a day in Stainz and learn more about the life and work of Archduke Johann and Anna Plochl. The meeting point is at 2:00 PM at Café Hubmann. Arrival is possible by car (please use the Ettendorf parking lot - right after the main square of Stainz) or by public transport (GKB bus lines 760 / 761). The Ettendorf parking lot is free of charge and easily accessible after dinner at the hotel restaurant Stainzerhof. Take the walk through Stainz to walk along the Archduke Johann Trail, where you will already learn a lot about the work of the "Styrian Prince."
