Museums in Graz
Time made visible
Museums in Graz open new perspectives on the city. Between historic collections and contemporary positions, a cultural cosmos unfolds — preserving the past while reflecting the present.
Many institutions lie just a few steps from one another — embedded in the urban fabric and connected by squares, courtyards and pathways. In this way, a museum visit becomes part of an urban walk.
BLOOM 2026
21 March to 8 November 2026
In 2026, the Universalmuseum Joanneum dedicates its annual theme, BLOOM, to the flower — as artistic motif, subject of research and cultural symbol.
Exhibitions bring together historic objects, contemporary art and scientific perspectives. Between aesthetic presence and layered meaning, a multifaceted programme takes shape.
Culture is not only found in the grand.
Often, smaller places sharpen the view.

Graz Museum
Two locations
At the Graz Museum, the city’s history becomes tangible — both in the historic palais on Sackstraße and at the Schlossberg itself. The exhibitions connect past and present, tracing everyday life, urban development and social change.
While the main building opens up urban perspectives, the Schlossberg location conveys history directly at its site — with views across Graz and insight into its layered development.
