Stoelzle Glass Museum, Bärnbach

Since 1805, glass has been produced in Bärnbach. The Stoelzle Bärnbach glassworks is the historical origin of today's Stoelzle Group and remains closely tied to the glassmaking tradition of Upper Styria.

At the Stoelzle Glass Center, craftsmanship, glass art, and architecture come together. The historic generator house has been integrated into a transparent ensemble that today houses a demonstration glassworks, a glass museum, and a factory outlet. Guided tours allow visitors to observe how molten glass is created from quartz sand, lime, and soda at around 1,540 degrees. Using a glassmaker's pipe, wooden forms, and trained breath, this molten glass is gradually shaped into a mouth-blown piece.

The glass museum presents more than 300 selected objects, spanning from historical drinking glasses and carafes to intricate works from various European glass traditions. The works of the glass artist Rudolf Weninger are also closely associated with the location.

The factory outlet, open year-round, complements the visit. Thus, the glassworks in Bärnbach is not just a place of memory, but a vibrant site of craftsmanship in the Graz Region.
