Shopping-Strolling-Tour with the donkeys

Pöllau

About the offer

Accompany the donkeys Cocos & Faxe and the biologist Carmen on the 2-3 hour shopping-strolling-tour through the Pöllauer Tal nature park in Eastern Styria. In addition to stopping at various shops on the main square, you will be offered a wonderful panorama with forest paths during the tour!

At the beginning it's time to arrive at the 3er Apfelschmiede (organic farm) and to meet the donkey woman Mrs. Carmen Dreier-Zwetti. Carmen will be happy to show you around the courtyard if you are interested. In addition to the donkeys Cocos & Faxe, you can also get an insight into the in-house production of various types of apples, pears, quinces, apple cider, vinegar and various fruit spreads. Also the welcome drink is included, of course!

The Apfelschmiede 3er is an organic farm from the 1960s and has been working organically for 30 years. They pay particular attention to the appropriate harvest maturity, because they would not eat an unripe apple themselves. However, this requires several picking passes and thus also makes the harvest considerably more expensive. Since the trade does not honor this, they would like to market more themselves and, above all, stay in the region. After the shopping tour you have the possibility to buy fruit and juices from the farm, just if you like!

Then we go into the introductory round:

  • Get to know the donkeys Cocos and Faxe, two very trusting and socialized animals
  • Carmen will accompany you on the tour, she is also a biologist and can explain many ecological connections to you
  • If you want, you can lead the donkeys yourself or accompany Carmen with the two donkeys

During the shopping stroll you can have fun, entertaining or very instructive or special donkey talk topics. The pure walking time is 2-3 hours. But please plan 4 hours to be on the safe side.

The following refreshments await you:

  • The hike leads past various old farms and so-called "troad boxes" in the beautiful Pöllauer Tal nature park
  • Depending on the season, the tour is also suitable for collecting berries and herbs (you will find wild strawberries, raspberries and blackberries as well as various herbs that Carmen will be happy to introduce you to, as well as wild flowers, insects, moths and birds)
  • Depending on the weather and the situation, the tour leads along the Hirschbirnweg through the Haidenwald and also through the Pöllauer village to the mainsquare of Pöllau, where you will buy the products for the picnic.
  • After the shopping-strolling tour enjoy your picnic in the forests with the donkeys

The shopping strolling tour takes place for 1-10 people.

  • welcome drink such as apple juice, pear juice or quince juice from our own production farm
  • guided visit at the Apfelschmiede 3er (organic farm)
  • 2-3 hour strolling shopping tour through Pöllau and through the Natupark (forest, flowers, berries, etc.)
  • forest picnic in Haidenwald (picnic basket, products and water are included)

Depending on the weather, please bring suitable clothing and sturdy shoes. Dogs are also allowed and welcome!

It's an easy hike with a moderate incline that should be doable for everyone. Cocos and Faxe (donkeys) are not fast walkers and also give you enough time!

If desired, the "apple strudel pulling" with Mia Heil can also be booked, learn how to pull out a strudel dough yourself and enjoy your own apple strudel during the forest picnic with the donkeys (www.oellerbauer.at). You can book this additional experience, Carmen will coordinate the booking for you.

About the serviceprovider

About us story

Bought in 1960 by the grandmother of three, the former cattle farm was quickly converted into a fruit-growing business. In the course of modernization, the half-stem trees that were common at the time were switched to spindle trees. Another adjustment was the change in the variety composition to more organic and tastier varieties.

Our business today We pay particular attention to the right harvest maturity, because we would not eat an unripe apple ourselves. However, this requires several picking passes and thus also makes the harvest considerably more expensive. Since the trade does not reward this, we would like to market more ourselves and, above all, stay in the region. You are welcome to buy fruit and juices from us by telephone agreement. In addition, we have been offering guided tours for school classes for a few years.

We are also planning to keep chickens in mobile coops in the orchard - not only for the fresh eggs, but also to make it easier to get rid of the codling moth. With all our donkeys, goats, geese, ducks, chickens, cats and dogs, we are almost back to the cattle business that the family started over 50 years ago...
