Panorama tour Höhn

Open
The panoramic tour from Fohnsdorf via the Sillweg lookout point and the former Höhn snack station is a hike with great views all year round.
On this panoramic tour, we are in the north of Fohnsdorf and can enjoy the view of the largest inner-alpine basin in Styria after just a few meters in altitude. The trail climbs moderately and leads along a variety of forest roads and hiking trails to the Sillweger viewing platform, which was built in 1909 and is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Fohnsdorf. The lookout point is situated at an altitude of 959 m above sea level and surprises with its exposed location and wonderful views. A place to feel good and linger! The rest of the trail leads mainly along forest roads, allowing you to enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, such as the Seetal Alps or the Stubalpe. On the descent through the Fohnsdorfer Graben, a detour to the ruins and the Reconciliation Cross is recommended.

Conclusion: A wonderful hike for young and old and for all year round.

More information

From St. Michael in Upper Styria via the Murtal expressway S36 (toll sticker required) to the "Zeltweg-West" exit. Then via Aichdorf to Fohnsdorf (36 km, approx. 25 minutes).

From Judenburg via the Murtal expressway S36 (toll sticker required) to the "Judenburg-Ost" exit and on to Fohnsdorf (10 km, approx. 15 minutes).

We start at the main square in Fohnsdorf (1), 736 m, and walk slightly uphill along Grabenstraße, past the parish church and soon turn right into Höhenstraße. A short stretch along Höhenstraße and then left into Precheisengasse, which we follow to the junction with Traunerweg. We now hike uphill along the Traunerweg, first on the asphalt road and then on a gravel road to the Trauner farmstead (2), 849 m. From here, the trail continues slightly uphill on a well-maintained path until you reach a forest road after a wooden path. A few meters uphill along the forest road and we see the entrance to the Sillweger Aussichtswarte on the right-hand side. The trail leads gently up and down until we reach the Sillweger Aussichtswarte (3), 959 m. After a panoramic break, we follow the path uphill, cross a forest road, continue over a few steps and follow the well-marked hiking trail uphill until we see several signposts at a forest road. Here we keep left and stay on the forest road, which leads directly to the meadow above the former Höhn snack station (4), 988 m. We turn right across the meadow on a well-trodden path and after a few minutes we see a fence passage. We go through here and come directly to the access road to Höhn, where we now keep to the right. We stay on the road, which is almost flat at first and then continues downhill through the Fohnsdorfer Graben. Shortly before we reach the populated area again, we recommend a detour to the Vanstorf ruins (5), 811 m, and the reconciliation cross. For the descent to Fohnsdorf, we follow the asphalt road that leads directly to the main square or our starting point.
A detour to the Vanstorf ruins is always recommended.
Fohnsdorf is easy to reach by bus. The nearest train stations are Judenburg, Zeltweg and Knittelfeld.
