The Sernauberg is a hidden gem in the South Styrian wine region. It’s a real insider tip! But one we’re more than happy to share with you.
The hike begins at the sports field in Gamlitz; follow the Gamlitzbach stream and the red-white-red trail markers (No. 4) toward Steinbach. Turn off toward Sattlerhof. The trail takes you through meadows, forests, and vineyards, passing many excellent establishments where you can quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger. Once you arrive at the Jöbstl family’s vineyard pavilion, take some time to enjoy a glass of wine or grape juice and soak in the breathtaking views that appear again and again along the way. The trail then continues uphill toward Sernauberg until you complete the loop over Gamlitzberg and return to the starting point. Take your time and get to know the creative farms with their farm shops on the Sernauberg. Many information boards along the trail tell you about the animal and plant species on the Sernauberg, its geology, the old customs of its inhabitants—which seem strange today—and interesting facts about wine.
