Experience the vastness of the Koralpe: expansive alpine pastures, easy terrain, alpine charm, rustic huts, and warm-hearted people—you’ll experience all of this while hiking in the South Styria adventure region.

Start at Wirtbartl (1,294 m) and follow Forest Road 588 toward Glitzalm. After about 1 km, leave the forest road and follow the path through the Wad to Kramerin. At the stone chapel “Die Kramerin” (1,632 m), keep left and hike toward Gr. Speikkogel (Long-Distance Hiking Trail 05) until you reach the trail junction. Continuing to the right, you’ll soon cross the tree line and enjoy a magnificent view. Hike slightly uphill along the grass-covered ridge until, after four kilometers, you see a large stone cairn on your right—off the trail—marking the Großer Frauenkogel (1,967 m) and your destination. For the descent, keep to the left and hike down the trail (Trail No. 588) across the expansive alpine pastures—along the fence, past the high-voltage power line towers—until you cross the stream and arrive at the stone wayside shrine above the Glitzalm (1,631 m). After a short climb, you’ll reach the intersection you’ve already passed and the Kramerin. Continuing straight ahead, the trail leads to the Schwanberger Brendlhütte (1,566 m). From the Brendlhütte, head southwest on Trail 580, first a gentle climb across the open alpine pasture and then along a steeper section through the forest back to the starting point at Wirtbartl. A wonderful alpine experience that you must enjoy to the fullest!

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 toward Klagenfurt at the Graz-West interchange.
Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 toward Lannach-Deutschlandsberg. At the traffic light intersection, turn right through the town and continue toward St. Anna-Schmuckbauerwirt-GH Wirtbartl.

Wir starten beim Wirtbartl (1294 m). An der Forststraßen-Gabelung halten wir uns links und wandern in Richtung Glitzalm – ein Teilstück parallel in Richtung Zirma-Alm. Stetig geht es durch den Wald über einen sehr gut markierten Weg (588) bergauf. Bei der Steinkapelle „Die Kramerin“ (1632 m) halten wir uns links und wandern in Richtung Gr. Speikkogel (Weitwanderweg 05) bis zur Wegkreuzung. Rechts weiter kommen wir alsbald über die Baumgrenze und in den Genuss einer prächtigen Aussicht. Entlang des grasbedeckten Bergrückens wandern wir leicht ansteigend bergauf, bis wir nach vier Kilometern rechterhand – abseits des Wanderweges - eine große Steinschlichtung sehen und somit den Großen Frauenkogel (1967 m) und unser Ziel erreichen. Für den Abstieg halten wir uns links und wandern auf dem Steig (Weg Nr. 588) über die weitläufigen Almflächen bergab – entlang des Zaunes, an den Stützen der Hochspannungsleitung vorbei, bis wir den Bach überqueren und beim steinernen Bildstock oberhalb der Glitzalm (1631 m) ankommen. Nach einem kurzen Gegenanstieg gelangen wir zu der uns bereits bekannten Kreuzung und zur Kramerin. Weiter geradeaus führt der Wanderweg zur Schwanberger Brendlhütte (1566 m) und durch ein steileres Wegstück durch den Wald zurück zu unserem Ausgangspunkt.
