A wonderful hike that takes us up to the Demmerkogel at 671 m, the highest point of this circular trail. Through woods and meadows we return to the valley of the Kroisgraben and walk back to the starting point via the municipal road.
The name Sausal first appears in a document from 970, in which Emperor Otto I gave the area between the rivers Sulm and Laßnitz to the Archbishopric of Salzburg as a fief. The name "Sausal" is derived from the Latin "Solva silva" (Sulm forest). The place names Kitzeck or Steinriegel are not found in any medieval documents, but some of the cadastral parishes of today's Kitzeck are already mentioned in the land register of the Vizedomamt Leibnitz in 1322. The name Fresing (Katastralgemeinde) is recorded in the Ortsnamenbuch von Steiermark (1893) as one of the oldest villages.

Via the A9 Phyrnautobahn coming from the south, north, east and west - exit Leibnitz - continue towards Kaindorf/S. - Heimschuh - Fresing - Kitzeck i. S.
From the starting point, turn right, down the valley over the municipal road and after approx. 400 m turn right again down the marked path into the Kroisgraben. Keep left and follow the stream until you leave the valley floor to the right in the direction of Altenberg and cross the Fresinggraben off the municipal road to Brudersegg. Keep to the right at the road and with a steady climb over Hochbrudersegg you then reach the Demmerkogel (671 m). From the Demmerkogel, the route leads through a wooded area. After about 400 m, keep left and follow the path down to Kroisgraben. Keep left and then, immediately after the fish ponds, continue to the right until you reach the municipal road. Continue left here until you reach the main road. Turn right and follow the road along the pavement for approx. 1 km back to the starting point.
