The starting point for this circular walk is the Schilcherland car park in St. Stefan/Stainz. From the car park, take path S4 and S6 past the secondary school to the Klug joinery. Here, turn left and then head diagonally right down through the woods. Now follow path S6 through the sawmill, crossing the footbridge and the local road. After approx. 20 m, turn right along the forest path to the dog training school, then continue over the bridge to the road. From here, follow the S4 hiking trail. The route now takes you along forest and meadow paths, over the footbridge to the hiking trail junction. Turn left onto the S3, 06 trail. The path leads over the footbridge through the forest. Here the path climbs gently up to Hofererbergstraße. It’s worth taking a detour 50 m to the right to visit beekeeper Klug to buy natural honey products. Cross the road to the left, then turn right and continue to follow the S3, 06 markings, approaching Mitterzirknitz through the beech forest. First turn right, then left, cross the bridge and arrive at a junction of hiking trails. Take the path on the left (S1, S4) and pass a farm, crossing a wooded area to reach dairy farmer Herunter. At the wayside shrine (Marterl), turn left down the road to the Krainerhof wine tavern. Here you can enjoy a refreshment, and follow the Genuss-Schilcher Weg back to the starting point.

From Graz, continue on the A2 towards Klagenfurt, then take the Lieboch exit towards Stainz/Deutschlandsberg/Eibiswald and continue towards Stainz – St. Stefan/Stainz.

Ausgangspunkt dieses Rundweges ist der Schilcherland-Parkplatz in St. Stefan/Stainz. Vom Parkplatz aus gehen wir den Weg S4, S6 vorbei an der Mittelschule bis zur Tischlerei Klug. Hier biegen wir links ab und gehen anschließend halb rechts durch den Wald hinunter. Nun folgen wir dem Weg S6 durch das Sägewerk, queren den Steg und die Gemeindestraße. Nach ca. 20 m gehen wir rechts den Waldweg entlang bis zur Hundeschule, weiter über die Brücke bis zur Straße. Ab hier folgen wir dem Wanderweg S4. Nun geht es entlang auf Wald- und Wiesenwegen, über den Steg zur Wanderwegkreuzung. Wir folgen nun links dem Weg S3, 06. Es geht über den Steg durch den Wald. Hier steigt es leicht an bis zur Hofererbergstraße. Es bietet sich ein Abstecher, rechts 50 m, zum Imker Klug machen, um die naturbelassenen Honigprodukte zu erwerben. Wir queren die Straße nach links, biegen nach 30 Schritten nach rechts und halten uns weiter an die Markierung S3, 06 und nähern uns über den Buchenwald Mitterzirknitz. Wir biegen zuerst rechts, dann links ab, gehen über die Brücke und kommen zu einer Wanderwegkreuzung. Wir nehmen den Weg links S1, S4 und gelangen vorbei an einem Bauernhof über ein Waldstück zum Milchbauern Herunter. Beim Bildstock (Marterl) gehen wir links die Straße hinunter bis zum Buschenschank Krainerhof. Hier können wir uns stärken und am Genuss-Schilcher Weg kehren wir zum Ausgangspunkt zurück.

As the name of the trail suggests, it’s all about honey. Visit the Klug apiary, sample some delicious honey products and perhaps take some home with you.

Many starting points for our hikes in southern Styria can also be reached by public transport.

For a relaxed and sustainable journey, we recommend travelling by bus and train wherever possible. Depending on the region, additional local transport options are available.
